Meet author Vanessa MacLaren-Wray at “Stranger Fiction: The Art of Crafting Speculative Fiction and World-Building With Words” on September 19, 2024 from 6:30PM – 7:30PM at the Palo Alto City Public Library sponsored by the San Francisco Chapter of the California Writers Club.
How can you make the manuscript catch an editor’s (or agent’s) attention? Laying it out like a book? Using a clever font? Adding a colorful background? Make them happy with professional-level manuscript formatting. Like well-done grammar and punctuation, it’s not showy, but it demonstrates skill and supports your content—whether it’s flash fiction, a novel, or a nonfiction piece—to leap off the page.
This workshop gives writers the tools they need to make their manuscripts shine. It covers choosing who to submit to, understanding submission requirements, tips and tricks to ensure your manuscript meets requirements, demystification of the cover letter, and the wait for acceptance. Attendees get help with individual issues and come away ready to enter the race for publication with a clearer understanding of the challenges editors (and agents, too) face and what they need from writers in order to offer that “yes.”
